Spokane, WA – Flash Flood Watches have been issued for several counties in Washington State as a series of thunderstorms are expected to bring heavy rainfall and potentially dangerous conditions this weekend. The National Weather Service in Spokane has warned that flash flooding is likely in areas, particularly in Chelan, Okanogan, Kittitas, Yakima, Klickitat, and Skamania counties.

According to the National Weather Service, slow-moving thunderstorms on Friday afternoon and evening over the steep terrain of north-central Washington will increase the risk of rapid rises in creeks and small streams. Burn areas from recent wildfires are especially vulnerable to rock and mudslides, similar to those seen last Saturday in Skagit County.

As the storm system moves southward, additional thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain are expected to impact central and southern parts of the Cascade Range on Saturday and Saturday night. The threat of flash flooding, debris flows, and mudslides will persist into the weekend.

Spokane residents can expect cloudy skies and a high of 80 degrees today. The weekend forecast includes sunny skies with highs of 90 degrees on Saturday and 87 degrees on Sunday, offering a temporary reprieve from the severe weather further west. Warmer temperatures will continue into next week, with highs reaching the low 90s on Monday before cooling slightly.
