Lind, WA – A fast-moving fire burned through uncut wheat and stubble fields just south of Lind this morning, prompting Level 3 evacuations and a swift multi-agency response before crews managed to contain it by midday.
According to Adams County Fire District #2, crews were dispatched at 10:48 a.m. to the fire, which was accelerated by strong south-southwest winds and threatened a nearby residence located only a half mile from the ignition point. The fire’s aggressive behavior required immediate tactical coordination and prompted officials to request mutual aid from surrounding agencies.
Fire officials said Level 3 evacuations—indicating immediate danger—were issued as crews confronted heavy smoke and extreme heat in their efforts to contain the blaze and protect homes and farmland. By 12:34 p.m., the fire was reportedly under control, and mop-up operations had begun. The evacuations were lifted shortly after.
Operational control was maintained by ACFD #2, which prioritized the efficient deployment of resources and coordination with multiple agencies. Support came from Franklin County Fire Districts #1 and #2, Adams County Fire Protection District #6 in Benge, East Adams EMS, and the Adams County Sheriff’s Office. Local farmers also provided critical water tenders during the response.
Officials expressed gratitude for the volunteers, mutual aid departments, and law enforcement officers who assisted in stopping the spread and safeguarding property.
“Our goal is always the same: protect life, property, and farmland—and get the job done,” ACFD #2 stated.
The cause of the fire has not been released.
