Seattle, Wash. – Fire danger remains critical across western Washington as a Red Flag Warning stays in place for the Cascades through 9 p.m. Monday, with another warning expiring tonight in the Olympic Mountains. The National Weather Service says hot, dry, and unstable conditions are fueling rapid fire growth potential, particularly above 1,500 feet in the North and Central Cascades.

According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, temperatures are reaching into the 90s with humidity dipping as low as 20%. That combination, paired with unstable air, increases the chance for existing wildfires to expand quickly. In the Olympic Mountains, the Red Flag Warning will expire tonight, but conditions remain hazardous until then.

Communities near Stevens Pass, Snoqualmie Pass, and Mount Rainier could experience increased smoke if fires flare. Air quality may deteriorate rapidly in affected valleys. Authorities urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and remain ready for fast-changing fire conditions.

Officials warn that any ignition could spread quickly, threatening forested areas, roadways, and recreation zones. Hikers and campers are asked to avoid open flames and report any signs of smoke.

Critical fire weather is expected to persist until at least Monday evening in the Cascades, with additional alerts possible if dry heat continues into the week.
