Seattle, WA – A 3.7 magnitude earthquake rattled parts of western Washington early Sunday morning, briefly shaking buildings and startling residents across the Seattle-Tacoma region.

According to the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PNSN), the quake struck at 8:15 a.m. local time (15:15 UTC) on April 6, with its epicenter located approximately 12 kilometers east of Greenwater, Washington, at a depth of 9.4 kilometers. The tremor was widely felt across King and Pierce counties, including in cities like Seattle, Kent, Tacoma, and Olympia.

More than 2,800 people submitted “Did You Feel It?” reports to the U.S. Geological Survey, noting light shaking consistent with intensity level IV. No damage or injuries have been reported at this time.

Emergency officials are reminding residents to review earthquake preparedness plans and ensure emergency kits are accessible. Light shaking at this magnitude typically does not cause structural damage, but serves as a critical reminder of the region’s seismic vulnerability.

Washington sits along the seismically active Cascadia Subduction Zone, making events like Sunday’s tremor a regular occurrence. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from local emergency management agencies and the Washington Emergency Management Division.
