Seattle, Washington – A light earthquake rattled parts of western Washington late Monday, with a magnitude 2.5 tremor reported 10 kilometers southwest of Seabeck at 5:39 p.m. local time.

According to the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network, the quake struck at a depth of 17.7 kilometers and was recorded by the University of Washington’s seismic sensors. Though minor, the quake was shallow enough to be felt lightly in parts of Kitsap County. Two residents submitted “Did You Feel It?” reports, though no damage or injuries were reported.

The epicenter lies west of Puget Sound and roughly 30 miles west of Seattle. Light seismic activity like this is not uncommon in the region, which sits atop a complex tectonic zone that includes the Cascadia Subduction Zone and several inland faults.

No aftershocks have been recorded as of Tuesday morning. Officials urge residents to review earthquake preparedness plans and keep emergency kits stocked.

Seismic monitoring continues, but no further alerts have been issued for the area.
