Concrete, Washington – A small earthquake struck near Concrete Sunday afternoon, registering a magnitude 2.5 and producing light shaking across parts of Skagit County.
According to the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PNSN), the quake occurred at 4:12 a.m. local time (11:12 UTC), about 3 kilometers west-southwest of Concrete at a depth of 5 kilometers. The event has been reviewed by seismologists and is considered minor, with no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
Residents in and around Concrete, as well as nearby rural communities along State Route 20, may have felt brief shaking, especially in quieter indoor settings. Earthquakes of this size are typically too weak to cause structural issues but can still be noticeable, particularly near the epicenter.
Across western Washington, minor seismic activity like this is not uncommon due to the region’s complex fault systems. Emergency management officials do not expect aftershocks to pose any risk, but they encourage residents to remain familiar with basic earthquake safety, including securing heavy items and knowing safe shelter locations indoors.
No alerts or advisories have been issued following this event. Officials will continue monitoring the region, though no further seismic impacts are expected through Sunday night.
