Spokane, WA – A large custom metal T. rex statue was reportedly stolen from a landscaped roundabout in Spokane County, prompting an active investigation and a public appeal for information.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Sunday, March 8, 2026, at approximately 12:05 p.m. to a reported theft at the intersection of North Dupont Road and North Mellon Parkway. Investigators said the statue, described as a custom-made metal dinosaur, was allegedly taken sometime earlier that day between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.

Authorities said the artwork had been installed as part of a decorative display in the center of the roundabout. The statue’s replacement and repair costs are estimated at approximately $70,000, making the alleged theft a significant loss to the community.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Investigative Unit (SCIU) said the case is being investigated as alleged theft and malicious mischief. Officials emphasized the rarity and distinctive appearance of the sculpture, noting it would likely be difficult to transport or conceal without drawing attention.

Investigators have not released suspect descriptions but said unknown individuals allegedly removed the statue under cover of darkness. Law enforcement is urging anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area or who may have information about the statue’s whereabouts to come forward.

Authorities also asked scrap yards, metal recyclers and local businesses to remain alert in case the statue or parts of it are allegedly brought in.

Anyone with information is asked to contact SCIU Detective N. Kauffman at 509-477-3224 and reference case number 10030824.
