Washington, DC – Clouds will linger over the capital Thursday, but residents can look forward to brighter skies by Friday as dry weather settles in before rain returns late in the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, Thursday will stay mostly cloudy with highs near 76 degrees and northeast wind gusts up to 22 mph. Conditions clear Friday, bringing sunshine and highs in the mid-80s across the metro region, stretching from Arlington to Silver Spring.

The calm stretch holds through Saturday, offering ideal conditions for outdoor plans with highs around 84 degrees. Nights will cool comfortably into the low 60s, with clear skies making for good visibility.

By Sunday, however, moisture builds back into the area. Forecasters note a 50% chance of showers Sunday afternoon, which could impact drivers along I-395 and outdoor events across downtown Washington. A lingering 40% chance of showers extends into Sunday night, when lows dip into the upper 60s.

Residents should enjoy the sunny break but keep rain gear ready for late Sunday. Additional advisories may be issued if storms organize heading into early next week.
