Baltimore, Maryland – Sunny but colder conditions are expected across the Baltimore–Washington region today, with daytime highs remaining below normal across much of the area.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, high temperatures Thursday will range from the upper 20s near the Pennsylvania border to the mid-30s across central Virginia. Despite sunshine, cold air in place will limit daytime warming.
The coolest conditions are expected across northern Maryland and the eastern West Virginia panhandle, while slightly milder temperatures will develop farther south toward Charlottesville and central Virginia. Highs across the Washington, D.C., metro area are expected to top out near the low 30s.
The colder temperatures will be noticeable along major transportation corridors including Interstate 95, Interstate 70, Interstate 66, Interstate 81, and Interstate 64. While no winter precipitation is expected, the cold may impact those spending extended time outdoors or commuting during early morning and late afternoon hours.
Forecasters noted that today’s highs are several degrees below early February averages. Normal high temperatures for this time of year typically reach the upper 30s to low 40s across much of the region.
Winds are expected to remain light, helping prevent additional wind chill concerns, though shaded areas may still feel colder throughout the day. Overnight temperatures tonight are expected to fall back below freezing across most locations.
Students, commuters, and young workers traveling on foot or waiting for public transportation may feel the cold most acutely, especially during the morning and evening hours. Dressing in warm layers is advised.
No watches, warnings, or advisories were in effect at the time of the update. Forecast details may change as additional weather systems approach later in the week.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts for updates on temperature trends heading into the weekend.
