Washington, District of Columbia – Rain chances are increasing across the Washington region Friday afternoon, with steadier and more widespread rainfall expected tonight through Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, rain may be moderate at times, with many areas picking up close to one inch of total rainfall by Sunday morning. Periods of rain are expected to continue through Saturday before tapering late.
Friday temperatures are forecast to range from the lower 50s to mid-60s during the day, falling into the 40s overnight. On Saturday, highs are expected between the upper 40s and near 60 degrees, with overnight lows dropping into the mid-20s to low 40s across the region.
By Sunday, a noticeable change in conditions is expected. The National Weather Service said much cooler temperatures and blustery winds will move in, with daytime highs ranging from the upper 20s to lower 50s depending on location. Gusty winds may make it feel colder throughout the day.
In the higher elevations, snow showers are possible along the Allegheny Mountains, particularly Sunday morning. No snow impacts are expected for the Washington metro area.
While no flooding or severe weather alerts have been issued with this forecast, residents should plan for periods of wet roads and reduced visibility during heavier rainfall. Outdoor activities may be impacted through Saturday, with colder and windier conditions developing Sunday.
Commuters, students, and weekend travelers should allow extra time and remain aware of changing conditions as the rain transitions to colder, wind-driven weather.
Additional updates will be provided by the National Weather Service as the system moves through the Mid-Atlantic.
