Baltimore, Maryland – Another night of dangerous wind chills is expected across the Mid-Atlantic before a brief warmup later this week.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, wind chill values at or below zero are forecast tonight into Monday morning across much of central Maryland, northern Virginia, eastern West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Forecasters said one more round of Cold Weather Advisories is expected to be issued later today as the cold air settles in.

The coldest apparent temperatures are expected in higher elevations and inland locations, where wind chills could fall to -5° to -15°, including areas near Hagerstown, Cumberland, Oakland, and Romney. Lower elevations, including Baltimore, Washington, Leesburg, and Frederick, may still see single-digit to near-zero wind chills, especially during the pre-dawn and early morning commute.

Travel corridors such as Interstate 95, Interstate 81, Interstate 70, Interstate 66, and U.S. Route 15 may be impacted as prolonged cold keeps pavement temperatures low. While no new snowfall is expected in this update, icy patches may persist on untreated roads, bridges, and sidewalks.

The National Weather Service said this marks one more night of extreme cold before a brief moderation occurs during the first half of the workweek. Even with slightly warmer daytime temperatures, overnight lows will remain cold enough to pose risks to people, pets, and infrastructure.

Commuters, students, and early-morning workers are urged to dress in layers, limit time outdoors, and ensure pets are brought inside. Officials also recommend checking on vulnerable individuals and taking precautions to prevent frozen pipes.

The National Weather Service emphasized that frostbite can occur quickly in these conditions, especially with exposed skin. Residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts closely as advisories are updated later today.
