ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Drivers and residents along the Chesapeake Bay should prepare for rough weather as flooding and strong storms threaten into the weekend. Anne Arundel County remains under a Coastal Flood Warning until 9 a.m. Friday, with high water levels already impacting shoreline neighborhoods and roadways near Route 50.

According to the National Weather Service, the flooding threat will taper by midmorning Friday, but another concern quickly builds. Severe thunderstorms are likely Saturday afternoon and evening across central Maryland, northern Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Damaging winds could disrupt travel and outdoor plans, especially football games and late-summer events.

Baltimore, Annapolis, and the I-95 corridor are expected to see scattered downpours Saturday night, with rain chances as high as 80 percent. Localized street flooding is possible in low-lying areas. In Annandale, Saturday highs will reach the upper 80s before storms move in, with rainfall totals between a quarter and half an inch possible.

Emergency managers urge residents to stay weather-aware and avoid driving through flooded roadways. Boaters on the Chesapeake Bay should remain in port Saturday afternoon, when conditions could deteriorate rapidly.

Looking ahead, Sunday brings partly sunny skies with highs near 75, but storm chances linger into the early morning. Monday and Tuesday turn dry, cooler, and comfortable, with sunshine and highs in the mid-70s before warming again midweek.

Warnings remain possible if storms strengthen Saturday. Residents should monitor updates and prepare for changing conditions.
