Washington, D.C. – Scattered thunderstorms and sweltering humidity are on track to impact the D.C. region by Saturday evening, bringing a volatile end to the week’s heatwave. Residents should prepare for lightning, heavy downpours, and possible street flooding, especially along I-295 and low-lying intersections.

According to the National Weather Service, Saturday, July 26th will start off mostly sunny and muggy, with temperatures climbing to 94°F by mid-afternoon. A 50% chance of thunderstorms develops after 2 p.m., with heat index values potentially reaching 105°. Winds will remain light but variable, offering little relief. Storms may linger into Saturday night, when conditions turn mostly cloudy with a continued 50% chance of rain.

Localized flooding is possible, especially where drains remain clogged from earlier storms. If you’re driving Saturday night, avoid underpasses and allow extra travel time. Power outages may occur during isolated storms.

Sunday brings another round of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. A high near 92°F will again make it feel oppressive outdoors. Thunder may continue into the early evening, with a 60% chance of precipitation by nightfall.

Five-Day Outlook (Saturday, July 26 – Thursday, August 1):

  • Saturday: High 94°F, chance of storms after 2 p.m.
  • Sunday: High 92°F, storms likely mid-morning through afternoon.

  • Tuesday: Mostly sunny and hotter, high 97°F.
  • Wednesday: Hot again, high 97°F, mostly sunny.
