Washington, D.C. – Temperatures are climbing quickly this afternoon, giving the region a brief window of spring warmth before cooler air settles in after sunset.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, highs will reach the low to mid-60s across much of Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. by 5 p.m. Thursday, with some valleys along I-64 pushing into the low 60s. Skies remain partly sunny through the late afternoon hours, supporting the warmest temperatures of the day.
Cities including Baltimore, D.C., and Hagerstown will see readings between 52 and 66 degrees during the late afternoon, while higher elevations in the Allegheny Mountains remain slightly cooler in the upper 40s to upper 50s.
By 7 p.m., temperatures begin to fall steadily, dropping into the upper 40s to low 60s, and reaching the mid-40s to mid-50s by 9 p.m. The cooling trend will be noticeable for anyone heading out during the evening.
Residents should plan for layered clothing if traveling after sunset, as the temperature drop will be quick once the sun goes down. No precipitation or severe weather is expected through tonight, but cooler conditions will continue into Friday.
