Virginia — Early clouds stretch across the Potomac this morning, reflecting in wet pavement and car lights as the pre-holiday rush continues. Travelers across Northern Virginia and D.C. are waking to mild air now, but a sharp cool-down is just hours away.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, scattered showers will move through early today before dry air sweeps in from the west. Temperatures will climb into the upper 60s, but brisk winds behind the front will drop readings by evening—ushering in a cool, clear Thanksgiving stretch that’s perfect for travel and outdoor gatherings.

Thanksgiving Day will dawn bright and calm with sunshine and highs near 45°F. Winds from the northwest will stay steady around 15 mph, adding a crisp bite to the air. Those heading to parades or early morning road trips should dress warmly—lows will dip to the upper 20s by Thursday night.

Friday stays sunny but chilly, with highs around 41°F and dry air making it feel even colder. The good news: no rain, no snow, and ideal driving conditions for shoppers and travelers heading home.

The weekend continues the dry pattern with sunny skies Saturday and highs near 42°F, while Sunday moderates slightly into the upper 40s. Light rain may return early next week as the next front approaches from the Midwest.

Looking farther ahead, long-range models suggest an Arctic front will surge into the U.S. between December 1–5, possibly bringing below-normal temperatures and early winter snow chances to the northern half of the country—including the Mid-Atlantic.
