Richfield, WI – A 40-year-old Connecticut man was arrested in Washington County on Monday after allegedly driving intoxicated with his 5-year-old child in the car while in possession of drugs and a CO₂ pistol resembling a real firearm.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 4:55 p.m. on November 17 to a disturbance in the Village of Richfield. The initial 911 caller reported the man was intoxicated and damaging property inside a home. As deputies responded, a follow-up call reported the man was attempting to leave the scene with his child.

Deputies arriving at the subdivision observed the suspect’s vehicle backing down a driveway and swerving without headlights. When the man allegedly attempted to flee, his vehicle struck a squad car before deputies contained him at gunpoint. His child was found unharmed in the back seat.

A CO₂ pistol and a scale containing suspected cocaine residue were recovered from the vehicle, along with other drug-related items. The man faces multiple charges, including Operating While Intoxicated (2nd offense) with a minor in the vehicle, Recklessly Endangering Safety, Disorderly Conduct, and Possession of Cocaine, THC, and Drug Paraphernalia.

Deputies from the Crisis Response Unit and Child Protective Services ensured the child was safely placed with family for the night. Sheriff Martin Schulteis commended his team’s quick actions, stating their response “prevented this situation from escalating into a dangerous high-speed pursuit.”
