Washington County, Wisconsin – A single-vehicle crash in the Town of Farmington left one man dead Thursday evening after his vehicle overturned along County Trunk M, prompting a multi-agency emergency response and hours-long road closure.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 5:40 p.m. Thursday when a 911 caller reported a vehicle leaving the roadway and overturning in a ditch on County Trunk M. Bystanders reached the vehicle and found the driver, the sole occupant, unresponsive and began rendering aid until deputies and fire crews arrived.
First responders, including the Newburg Fire Department and additional units from West Bend, worked to extricate the driver and perform life-saving measures. Despite those efforts, the man—identified as being in his 70s from the Town of Trenton—was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the vehicle was traveling southbound on County Trunk M when it veered onto the shoulder, crossed into the northbound lane, and entered the east-side ditch where it overturned. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The Washington County Crash Reconstruction Team responded to document the scene. Authorities closed a portion of County Trunk M for approximately three hours as crews conducted their investigation and cleared the roadway.
The Washington County Medical Examiner’s Office is assisting, and officials have not released additional details at this time.
