Jonesborough, TN – A Kingsport man was taken into custody Monday after allegedly speeding, attempting to flee deputies, and crashing into a home in Washington County, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Sheriff Keith Sexton, deputies patrolling the Knob Creek Dock Road area shortly before 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9, observed a vehicle reportedly traveling more than twice the posted speed limit. Deputies said the vehicle attempted to elude them and then collided with a home in the 200 block of Knob Creek Dock Road.

The driver, identified by deputies as John Mark McGuire, 38, allegedly exited the vehicle and was taken into custody without further incident. According to WCSO, a search of McGuire and the vehicle uncovered $3,674 in cash in various locations and denominations. Deputies also reported finding an unlabeled pill bottle containing pills McGuire allegedly identified as Subutex, 10 Suboxone tablets wrapped in cellophane, scales, a pipe with burnt residue, and a pink baggie containing about 6 grams of a crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to the crash scene to conduct the traffic investigation and arrange towing of the vehicle. No injuries were reported inside the residence that was struck, according to authorities.

McGuire is being held at the Washington County Detention Center on a $55,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on WCSO charges on Dec. 10. Deputies said additional charges are pending.
