JONESBOROUGH, TN – A Johnson City man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly attempting to strike two Washington County Sheriff’s Office patrol cars during a pursuit, authorities said.
According to Sheriff Keith Sexton, deputies were patrolling Cash Hollow Road when they observed a vehicle with no tags. When they attempted a traffic stop, the driver—identified as Brandon Keith Ayers, 41—allegedly accelerated toward Austin Springs Road, turning the incident into a pursuit.
Deputies said the vehicle spun around and accelerated toward them, nearly striking two patrol cruisers before continuing erratic movements along South Austin Springs Road. The chase ended in the 100 block, where officers were able to stop the vehicle.
Ayers allegedly fled on foot but was quickly taken into custody with help from the Tennessee Highway Patrol. A female passenger told investigators she repeatedly asked Ayers to stop and let her out, but he refused, according to deputies.
Ayers faces multiple charges, including two counts of Assault Against a First Responder, False Imprisonment, Felony Evading Arrest, and Reckless Driving. He was booked into the Washington County Detention Center and is being held on a $50,000 bond. His court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 12.
