Jonesborough, TN – Two people were arrested Christmas Eve following an alleged aggravated assault involving a firearm at a Washington County residence, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Sheriff Keith Sexton, deputies responded around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday to a home in the 3200 block of McKinley Road after a resident reported suspicious activity outside the residence. The homeowner told deputies the suspects allegedly vandalized Christmas decorations before knocking on a bedroom window.

Investigators say the suspects — Dustin Otto Bishop, 31, of Elizabethton, and Kaitlyn Dawn Malone, 29, of Johnson City — allegedly raised ski masks to reveal their faces. According to the victim, Bishop then allegedly pointed a firearm at him before the pair fled the scene.

Deputies later located the suspects’ vehicle parked along Highway 11-E near South Barton Street later that afternoon. According to authorities, Bishop allegedly attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended north of South Barton Street.

Bishop was charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest. Deputies also reported finding a small amount of marijuana in his possession at the time of arrest, resulting in an additional simple possession charge.

Malone was also charged with aggravated assault, according to the sheriff’s office.

Both suspects were transported to the Washington County Detention Center. Malone’s bond was set at $10,000, which officials say she has since posted. Bishop remains in custody on a $25,000 bond.

Authorities said both individuals are scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, Dec. 26. The investigation remains ongoing, and no injuries were reported in the incident.

Residents in the area are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement.
