Jonesborough, TN – A 65-year-old Jonesborough man is behind bars after Washington County deputies say he fired a shotgun at another man following an earlier threat made to 911 dispatchers.
According to Washington County Sheriff Keith Sexton, deputies arrested Ronnie Kaye Jones, 65, and charged him with aggravated assault after responding to a reported shooting in the 3900 block of Highway 81 South around 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
Authorities say the victim and multiple witnesses reported that Jones allegedly fired a double-barreled shotgun at the victim during the incident. The shooting occurred in Haines Road, a rural area south of Jonesborough in Washington County, near the Johnson City metro area.
Sheriff Sexton said that prior to the shooting, a witness called 911 to report that Jones had allegedly threatened to shoot the victim and cut his throat. Deputies immediately began searching for Jones following the report.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies later located Jones in the 500 block of Rock House Road, where he was taken into custody without incident.
No injuries were reported in the incident, and investigators did not immediately release details about what may have led to the confrontation. The case remains under investigation.
Jones is currently being held at the Washington County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond. Jail records show he is scheduled to appear in court on Sunday, Dec. 29.
