Jonesborough, TN – A late-night traffic stop in Washington County led to the arrest of a Johnson City man after deputies reportedly found methamphetamine, a firearm, and cash inside his vehicle.
According to Washington County Sheriff Keith Sexton, deputies arrested Joshua Lee Scarlett, 41, of Johnson City, on Taylor Bridge Road Sunday night. Scarlett faces several charges, including possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a firearm, tampering with evidence, and introduction of contraband into a penal institution.
Deputies said Scarlett’s van was stopped after he was seen swerving across the center line multiple times, nearly entering oncoming traffic. A K9 unit, Rico, alerted on the vehicle, leading to the discovery of a semi-automatic pistol, ammunition, three syringes, and a substance believed to be methamphetamine.
Investigators also recovered $756 in cash from Scarlett’s person. A background check reportedly revealed he was a convicted felon prohibited from owning a firearm.
While booking Scarlett into the Washington County Detention Center, deputies discovered a bag containing approximately 10 grams of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.
Scarlett remains in custody on a $62,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 18.
