Jonesborough, TN – A Washington County man is behind bars after deputies say methamphetamine was discovered during an arrest involving the U.S. Marshals Service late last week.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested Michael Jay Ratliff, 45, on Friday, January 9, while assisting the United States Marshals Service (USMS) in Jonesborough, located in Washington County near the Johnson City metro area.

Sheriff Keith Sexton said the USMS was actively searching for Ratliff due to an alleged supervised release violation. Deputies located Ratliff along Highway 107, where he was taken into custody without incident.

During a search following the arrest, deputies reportedly found approximately 10 grams of methamphetamine stored in two separate containers. Authorities also say five capsules of an unknown substance were discovered inside a third container, along with items considered drug paraphernalia.

As a result, Ratliff was charged with Simple Possession, Drug Paraphernalia, and Manufacture, Delivery, Sale, or Possession of Methamphetamine, according to the sheriff’s office. Officials emphasized that the charges are allegations and that Ratliff is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Ratliff was transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where he is being held on a $5,000 bond related to the county charges. Jail records indicate he also has an active federal hold issued by the U.S. Marshals Service.

Authorities said Ratliff is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, January 12.
