Machias, ME – The National Weather Service in Caribou has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Central and Coastal Washington County, in effect from 10 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday.
Forecasters expect 3 to 5 inches of snow to accumulate overnight, with the heaviest snowfall occurring late Sunday night into early Monday morning. Cities impacted include Machias, Calais, Eastport, and Cherryfield.
The snow is expected to taper off by sunrise Monday, but slick and snow-covered roads will likely make for a hazardous Monday morning commute, especially along U.S. Route 1 and other coastal and inland routes.
The National Weather Service advises drivers to slow down, allow extra travel time, and prepare for limited visibility at times during heavier snowfall.
