Washington County, MD – Drivers traveling through the Dual Highway corridor and nearby neighborhoods saw an increased police presence Tuesday night as multiple law enforcement agencies teamed up for a coordinated traffic enforcement operation aimed at reducing drug-related crime and improving roadway safety.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the joint operation took place Thursday evening, January 29, and involved deputies from the Sheriff’s Office, troopers from the Maryland State Police, and officers from the Hagerstown Police Department. The effort focused on proactive traffic stops designed to deter criminal activity, disrupt drug trafficking, and increase visibility in one of the county’s busiest areas.
Despite extremely cold weather conditions, officers remained actively engaged throughout the evening, resulting in multiple arrests, citations, and enforcement actions.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office reported 13 traffic stops, 14 citations issued, and one vehicle towed. Deputies also made one controlled dangerous substance (CDS) arrest involving a user amount of cocaine, served one warrant, issued one summons, and conducted five K-9 deployments.
Maryland State Police conducted eight traffic stops during the operation, issuing two citations and two Safety Equipment Repair Orders. Troopers also made one juvenile criminal arrest and one adult CDS arrest.
Hagerstown Police Department officers served three warrants and made two drug-related arrests, including one for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and another CDS arrest.
Law enforcement officials say operations like this help strengthen partnerships between agencies while sending a clear message that drug-related criminal activity will not be tolerated. Officials also emphasized that high-visibility enforcement plays a key role in improving traffic safety and maintaining public order.
Residents traveling through the area were encouraged to drive cautiously and remain alert, particularly during periods of increased enforcement.
