Hagerstown, MD – A Hagerstown man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say a hospital security guard was stabbed Thursday night at Meritus Medical Center in Washington County.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 8:14 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2026, to Meritus Medical Center at 11116 Medical Campus Road in Hagerstown following reports of a stabbing.
Investigators said responding officers learned that a female security guard had allegedly been stabbed by a male suspect in the hospital cafeteria area. Deputies and assisting officers were directed to the hospital’s 1800 wing, where the suspect was believed to be located.
Authorities said officers encountered the suspect while he was still armed with a large kitchen knife. Deputies issued commands for the suspect to drop the weapon, according to the sheriff’s office.
Officials said the suspect then dropped to his knees and allegedly began stabbing himself in the neck with the knife. A deputy deployed a Taser, allowing officers to safely take the suspect into custody without additional injuries to others.
The suspect was identified as Timothy Franklin Wallech, 39, of Hagerstown.
According to authorities, Wallech was treated for his injuries and is currently being held without bond at the Washington County Detention Center.
He has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment.
The injured security guard was transported for medical treatment. Officials have not released additional details regarding her condition.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains active, though there is no ongoing threat to the community.
