Salem, IN – The Indiana State Police (ISP) are investigating the death of an inmate who was found unresponsive inside the Washington County Jail on Sunday afternoon.

According to ISP, jail staff discovered the inmate around 4 p.m. lying unresponsive in his bunk. Correctional officers immediately provided first aid and called for an ambulance. The inmate, identified as 61-year-old David Scott Elliott of Georgetown, Indiana, was transported to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Salem, where he was pronounced dead.

Washington County Sheriff Brent Miller requested assistance from ISP, and Detective Travis Baker was assigned to lead the investigation.
