Washington, IA – Twelve K9 teams from ten Iowa law enforcement agencies took part in a three-day police dog training event hosted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office this week.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the training was led by Sentinel K9 and professional trainer Jerry McClellan. The multi-day event brought officers and their K9 partners together for advanced skill exercises designed to improve teamwork, detection accuracy, and field response tactics.

The sheriff’s post thanked numerous community partners and donors who contributed venues, meals, and support for the event. Among those recognized were the Washington County Fair Association, ISU Washington County Extension, Wellman Fire Department, and several local schools, including Mid-Prairie, Washington, and Highland. Additional sponsors included the Mid-Prairie Culinary Arts Program, City of Kalona, Kinetic Dog Food, Riverside Casino & Golf Resort, and Sniff Industries.

The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that collaborations like this strengthen law enforcement coordination across the state and help ensure that K9 teams are ready to respond to emergencies with skill and confidence.
