Seattle, Wash. – Gale-force winds are churning the Washington offshore waters tonight, with the National Weather Service warning of hazardous seas up to 13 feet and gusts nearing 35 knots from Cape Flattery to Cape Shoalwater. Mariners are urged to remain in port as dangerous conditions continue through early Tuesday.

According to the NWS Ocean Prediction Center, north to northwest winds of 25 to 35 knots are expected to persist overnight before gradually easing to 20 to 30 knots by Tuesday night. Outer waters up to 250 nautical miles offshore will also face pockets of dense fog, reducing visibility to 1 nautical mile or less.

By Wednesday, winds are forecast to ease to 10 to 20 knots, with seas subsiding to 6 to 9 feet. Calmer conditions are expected Thursday into the weekend, though seas will remain moderate at 4 to 8 feet. Mariners should monitor updated advisories in case additional warnings are issued.
