Seattle, Washington – A magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck off the Washington coast at 4:48 a.m. Sunday, a jolt strong enough to register across seismic networks but unlikely to cause damage on land.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake occurred at a depth of 10.0 kilometers beneath the Pacific Ocean, roughly west of the Olympic Peninsula. The agency confirmed the event was reviewed and reported no tsunami threat tied to the early morning tremor.

Coastal communities from Neah Bay to La Push may have experienced very light shaking, though reports remain limited as of Sunday morning. Inland areas including Port Angeles and even parts of Seattle were unlikely to feel the movement due to distance and offshore positioning.

Emergency officials have not reported infrastructure issues, road impacts, or power disruptions. Still, earthquakes of this size can serve as reminders for residents to review emergency kits, secure loose household items, and ensure mobile alerts are enabled.

Aftershock chances remain low, with USGS data indicating only a small probability of additional activity above magnitude 3.0 in the coming days.

Seismic monitoring continues across the region, and officials say no advisories or warnings are in effect as of Sunday morning.
