Seattle, WA – Hazardous winter weather continues to grip the Pacific Northwest, with an avalanche warning issued for parts of Washington, including Snoqualmie and Stevens Pass, until Thursday evening. Residents and holiday travelers are urged to avoid high-risk backcountry areas.

According to the Northwest Avalanche Center, very dangerous avalanche conditions are present across the West North, West Central, and West South Cascade zones. The warning, effective until 6 p.m. Thursday, cites a high likelihood of natural avalanches in steep terrain. Travel in avalanche-prone areas is not recommended, particularly near slopes, ridges, and terrain with deep snow accumulation.

The National Weather Service has also issued a wind advisory for the Seattle area, with gusts up to 37 mph expected through Thursday morning. Rainfall will intensify, creating potential travel hazards, including slick roadways and localized flooding. Drivers along I-90 and US Route 2 should proceed cautiously and prepare for delays.

Looking ahead, Friday brings more rain and steady temperatures near 51°F. By Saturday, stormy weather persists, with rain increasing by afternoon and a high of 51°F expected. Sunday offers minimal relief, with scattered rain showers lingering.

Residents planning outdoor activities should stick to lower-altitude terrain and avoid steep slopes to ensure safety. For updated weather and avalanche conditions, visit nwac.us or weather.gov.
