Spokane, Wash. – Eastern Washington and north central Oregon are bracing for a prolonged stretch of dangerous heat beginning Saturday afternoon, with highs climbing into the upper 90s and low 100s through Wednesday. Overnight lows will only dip into the upper 60s and low 70s, offering little relief.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Spokane and Pendleton, the Extreme Heat Watch covers Spokane, Moses Lake, Wenatchee, Yakima, Tri-Cities, Walla Walla, Pendleton, and The Dalles, along with surrounding valleys and foothill communities. Temperatures are expected to reach 95 to 105 degrees, creating a major risk for heat-related illnesses.

Health officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, stay hydrated, and check on elderly neighbors. Car interiors can reach lethal levels within minutes, and children and pets should never be left unattended. Employers are advised to schedule frequent breaks for outdoor workers, with shaded or cooled rest areas.

Cities including Yakima, Ellensburg, and the Tri-Cities could see multiple consecutive days topping 100 degrees, straining cooling centers and health systems. Residents without air conditioning should seek public cooling shelters or community centers where available.

The heat watch remains in effect through Wednesday evening, with further advisories possible if conditions worsen.
