Spokane, WA — A powerful winter storm continues to impact the mountain passes of Washington and northern Idaho, prompting travel warnings and hazardous conditions through Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 a.m. Saturday for Stevens Pass in Washington and until 11 a.m. for Lookout Pass in Idaho. Snowfall totals of 4 to 8 inches are expected overnight in both areas, with snow rates peaking at 1 inch per hour before sunrise.

Winds are forecast to gust up to 35 mph, potentially reducing visibility and worsening road conditions. Motorists traveling over Stevens Pass on U.S. Route 2 or across Interstate 90 at Lookout Pass should prepare for slick, snow-covered roads and delays.

The warning applies to elevations above 4,000 feet, where snowfall accumulation will be greatest. This storm follows a trend of late-season snow events in the region’s high terrain.

Drivers are urged to carry emergency supplies such as flashlights, food, and water. For updated travel conditions, visit wsdot.wa.gov in Washington or dial 511 for Idaho road information.

Officials advise delaying non-essential travel until conditions improve later Saturday.
