Wenatchee, WA – Residents across Chelan and Douglas counties are under an air quality alert this weekend as wildfire smoke pushes particulate levels into the unhealthy range.
According to the Washington Department of Ecology, the advisory took effect Saturday morning and will remain in place until further notice. Smoke from regional wildfires is expected to impact Wenatchee, East Wenatchee, Leavenworth, Chelan, Cashmere, and surrounding areas through the coming days.
Officials warn that fine particulate matter (PM2.5) from wildfire smoke can pose health risks, particularly for children, older adults, and people with respiratory or heart conditions. When air quality reaches unhealthy levels, everyone is advised to reduce exposure by limiting time outdoors, avoiding strenuous activity, and improving indoor air circulation.
Residents are encouraged to use portable air cleaners, run HVAC systems on recirculation mode, and keep windows and doors closed when possible. Local agencies also recommend checking updated air quality readings before making outdoor plans.
