Chicago, IL – A brief spell of mild temperatures is expected across the central and eastern United States this week. Forecasters warn a significant blast of Arctic air will follow by the weekend.
According to the NOAA Weather Prediction Center, highs in the Midwest and parts of the East will climb into the 40s and 50s through Friday. Areas in the Southeast could see temperatures in the upper 60s or even low 70s. This warming trend marks a temporary break from the seasonally cold conditions experienced earlier in January.
The shift begins late Friday when a powerful Arctic front sweeps across the region. Temperatures will plummet sharply, bringing single-digit lows to parts of the Midwest. Wind chills may dip below zero in areas like Minnesota, Wisconsin, and northern Illinois. The cold air will push eastward, causing a dramatic temperature drop for much of the East Coast early next week.
While the warmth offers a temporary reprieve, officials urge the public to prepare for severe cold and consider cold-weather safety precautions.
