Quad Cities, IA/IL – Unseasonably warm temperatures are set to persist across the Quad Cities area into the weekend, with highs in the upper 70s and low 80s, while Friday and Saturday present unique weather challenges. Showers and scattered thunderstorms are possible tonight, but most of the area will remain dry, according to the National Weather Service.
As showers are forecast to sweep south of I-80 early Friday morning, agricultural areas face a growing concern for fire hazards, especially in unharvested fields. The NWS warns of elevated fire risks through Saturday, fueled by breezy conditions and dry weather. Farmers and residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and exercise caution with machinery in dry fields.
Temperatures will peak again on Saturday, with highs expected in the low to mid-80s, accompanied by wind gusts up to 35 mph. These conditions, combined with low humidity, could significantly increase the potential for wildfires. A fire weather watch is already in effect for areas at risk.
Looking ahead, a slight cool down is expected early next week, with temperatures in the mid-70s by Monday. However, the Quad Cities region will likely remain dry until mid-week, when a new system could bring a better chance for widespread rain.
