Walworth County, WI – A late-night two-vehicle collision Friday in Walworth County resulted in two fatalities and a house fire, prompting an ongoing investigation by local authorities.
According to the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 11:47 p.m. Friday near the intersection of US Highway 14 and State Line Road in the Town of Walworth. A preliminary report indicates one vehicle, allegedly driven by 20-year-old Zachary Bryan, ran a stop sign and collided with a northbound vehicle, pushing both into a nearby home.
Emergency crews responding to the scene found one of the vehicles fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters quickly worked to extinguish both the vehicle and a house fire that had spread from the crash. The vehicle that caught fire was occupied by two people, both pronounced dead at the scene by the Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office. Their identities have not yet been released pending family notification.
Bryan, the driver of the second vehicle, sustained serious injuries and was flown to a hospital by medical helicopter.
Authorities confirmed no injuries to the residents of the home impacted by the crash. The roadway was closed for several hours while investigators from the Sheriff’s Crash Investigation Unit examined the scene.
Assistance came from numerous departments including Sharon, Fontana, Elkhorn, and Harvard fire departments, along with local law enforcement and medical units.
The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office expressed condolences to all affected and reminded the public that the investigation remains ongoing. No charges have been announced, and authorities noted that all individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
