Lake Geneva, WI – Firefighters from Lake Geneva and surrounding communities responded to a chimney fire Tuesday morning that caused minor damage to a home in the Town of Linn but resulted in no injuries.

According to the Lake Geneva Fire Department, crews were dispatched at approximately 10:10 a.m. on December 16, 2025, to a reported chimney fire at a two-story, single-family home located at N484 State Highway 120. Automatic aid units from Fontana, Hebron, the Town of Delavan, and Elkhorn fire departments were also sent to the scene.

Engine 283 and Tender 283 arrived within six minutes of dispatch and found smoke coming from the attic area of the residence. Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack while additional units established a water supply.

Fire crews had water on the fire within five minutes of arrival, and the incident was brought under control shortly afterward. The fire was declared fully extinguished by approximately 10:32 a.m.

Fire officials said damage was limited to the exterior walls and adjoining attic space. No civilian injuries or firefighter injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though officials say no criminal activity is suspected.

Lake Geneva Fire Chief John Peters used the incident as a reminder about seasonal fire safety, emphasizing the importance of proper chimney maintenance. Peters noted that creosote buildup, blockages, and damaged chimneys are common causes of preventable fires during colder months.

He also urged residents to ensure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are installed on every level of their homes, especially near sleeping areas, and to test them monthly.

Fire officials say early detection and routine maintenance can significantly reduce the risk of serious damage or injury during home fires.
