Walla Walla, WA – A 32-year-old woman was rescued from a burning vehicle on Highway 12 on New Year’s Eve, thanks to the quick actions of both off-duty and on-duty law enforcement officers, according to the Walla Walla Police Department.

At about 7:20 p.m. on December 31, WESCOM 911 received multiple calls reporting a car on fire on eastbound Highway 12 near Rees Avenue. Before emergency responders arrived, off-duty Detective Daschofsky of the Walla Walla Police Department and Deputy Daschofsky from the Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and began life-saving efforts. The driver was reportedly unconscious while the car was actively burning.

K9 Officer Eastman and Officer Roberts soon arrived, coordinating efforts to pull the woman from the car while extinguishing flames. Additional officers, including Detective Toon, forced entry into the vehicle to ensure no one else was trapped.

Fire crews from the Walla Walla Fire Department arrived shortly after, fully extinguished the blaze, and transported the driver to a local hospital for treatment. The Washington State Patrol is investigating the crash.

Officials praised the seamless teamwork between agencies, emphasizing how off-duty and on-duty responders acted quickly to save a life. The incident was captured on Officer Eastman’s body-worn camera.
