Wakefield, VA – A mix of fire danger and frost alerts are in effect across Virginia today as the region experiences breezy, dry weather followed by cold overnight temperatures, according to the National Weather Service in Wakefield.
Forecasters report an Increased Fire Danger Statement for much of central and southern Virginia and northeast North Carolina, in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday. Winds between 10–15 mph, gusting up to 25 mph, and humidity near 25% will elevate wildfire risk. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning or discarding smoking materials.
Later tonight, a Frost Advisory takes over for western portions of Virginia, including areas north and west of Richmond, as lows fall into the low to mid-30s. Sensitive plants and crops could be damaged if left uncovered.
Friday will bring slightly cooler but calmer conditions, with highs in the mid to upper 60s and mostly sunny skies expected heading into the weekend.
