Wakefield, Virginia – Cooler conditions will persist across eastern Virginia today, with temperatures dropping into the lower 30s overnight, as forecasters continue monitoring a low-confidence snow potential for Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Wakefield.
In a Friday morning update, the National Weather Service said skies will remain sunny to mostly sunny today, keeping afternoon highs generally in the upper 30s to mid-40s across much of the region. Despite sunshine, temperatures will remain seasonably cool.
Clouds are expected to increase tonight as a weather system develops offshore. Overnight lows are forecast to fall into the lower 30s, with some locations near freezing by early Saturday morning. These temperatures could lead to patchy frost and chilly conditions for early commuters, though no winter weather advisories are currently in effect.
Forecasters noted they are closely monitoring Sunday for the potential of snow as low pressure strengthens offshore. At this time, snow potential remains uncertain, and no accumulation details have been issued. Officials emphasized that forecast confidence is still low and that updates will be provided as the system evolves.
Residents across the Wakefield forecast area, including portions of southeast Virginia and northeast North Carolina, are encouraged to stay informed, especially if travel plans are planned for the weekend.
Cold conditions are expected to continue into the weekend, with temperatures remaining below normal for mid-January.
