Wakefield, VA – Westerly winds are expected to become gusty by late morning and persist through the afternoon across eastern and central Virginia, according to the US National Weather Service Wakefield.

The latest forecast calls for maximum wind gusts between 25 and 35 mph, strongest near the Chesapeake Bay and lower Eastern Shore. Areas including Richmond, Norfolk, Williamsburg, and Petersburg can expect sustained winds near 20 mph with occasional higher gusts.

Forecasters say the breezy conditions are developing behind a cold front that moved through the region overnight. Despite the gusty winds, skies will remain mostly sunny, providing a cool and crisp autumn day with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s.

Winds are expected to gradually diminish tonight, leading to calmer conditions midweek. Motorists, especially those driving high-profile vehicles, should use caution on bridges and open highways. Residents are also encouraged to secure outdoor decorations and trash bins to prevent them from blowing away.
