Wake County, NC – A woman discovered deceased in Wake County on Friday has been identified as a missing resident from Johnston County, according to the Wake County Sheriff’s Office.

According to deputies, personnel from both sheriff’s offices were searching the area near the I-87 and I-40 interchange on Friday, November 14 when they located an adult female. The woman was later identified as 77-year-old Linda Roach Airington, who had been reported missing earlier in the day.

Wake County Sheriff Willie Rowe expressed condolences to the family, asking the community and the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office to support loved ones as they grieve. “We extend our deepest condolences to Mrs. Airington’s loved ones,” Rowe said in a statement. “We ask the community to join us in offering prayers and support as they find comfort during this difficult time.”

According to the sheriff’s office, the Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death. No additional details regarding how long the woman may have been in the area or the circumstances leading up to her disappearance have been released.

Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing, and no further information is available at this time.
