Wadsworth, IL – A convicted felon accused of a 2017 stabbing was arrested Wednesday after allegedly threatening multiple people with a knife at a Wadsworth property, prompting a large-scale response involving sheriff’s deputies and canine units.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 9:40 a.m. Wednesday to a residence in the 15900 block of West Wadsworth Road after reports of an aggravated assault. Joshua W. Marksberry, 39, who lived at the property, allegedly pulled a knife on one individual, made threats against them, and reportedly threatened to slit another person’s throat.

Marksberry fled the scene on foot before deputies arrived, initiating a search throughout the area.

Later that evening, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a person matching Marksberry’s description was spotted near Wadsworth Road and Dilleys Road. Deputies, supported by canine units, secured the area and began a search. Canine Hemi, alongside Deputy Kevin Zerbe and Canine Danno with Deputy Andrew Martini, searched the perimeter. Authorities say Canine Hemi led deputies to a tent in a wooded section of the property. After verbal commands, Marksberry exited the tent and was arrested without incident.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office has approved charges of Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, a Class 3 felony, and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a Class A misdemeanor.

“We are very pleased our Patrol Division and Canine Teams were able to successfully apprehend this violent man,” Sheriff John D. Idleburg said in a statement.

Marksberry is being held in the Lake County Jail, with an initial court hearing scheduled for Wednesday. Prosecutors are seeking to detain him while awaiting trial.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
