Wabash, Indiana – A two-vehicle crash at a Wabash County intersection killed one man Sunday and injured two others.

According to the Indiana State Police Peru District, the collision occurred shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2026, at the junction of State Road 15 and County Road 700 South in Wabash County.

A preliminary investigation by Senior Trooper Dustin Rutledge indicates that an 85-year-old Marion man, Dennis Stroup, was driving a 2007 Buick Lacrosse northbound on State Road 15 when, for an undetermined reason, he allegedly turned into the direct path of a southbound 2014 Ford F-150. The pickup was driven by Larry Walker, 76, of La Fontaine.

Both vehicles collided and came to rest in the southwest quadrant of the intersection. Sharon Walker, 72, of La Fontaine, was a passenger in the Ford.

Stroup was transported by Wabash Fire to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical staff. Larry and Sharon Walker were also transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

State police said neither alcohol nor narcotics are suspected to have contributed to the crash. Notification has been made to the family of the deceased.

The investigation remains ongoing. The intersection serves rural commuters and agricultural traffic traveling between Wabash and surrounding communities.

Assisting agencies included the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana DNR Law Enforcement, Wabash Fire Department, Liberty Volunteer Fire Department, and Wabash County EMA.
