Richmond, VA – The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued multiple Winter Storm Warnings across central and eastern Virginia for Monday, Dec. 8, with widespread snowfall and dangerous travel conditions expected from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
According to the NWS, areas including Richmond, Petersburg, Hopewell, Chesterfield, Prince George, New Kent, and Powhatan Counties could see 3 to 5 inches of snow, with isolated higher amounts possible. Further southeast, including Isle of Wight, Southampton, Surry, and James City Counties, snow totals between 2 and 4 inches are anticipated.
Forecasters warn that slippery roads will make both the morning and evening commutes hazardous, particularly along Interstate 95, Route 460, and I-64 corridors. Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time and keep emergency supplies such as food, water, and flashlights in their vehicles.
Snow is expected to taper off by early evening, but temperatures near freezing could lead to icy conditions overnight.
Officials recommend checking Virginia 511 for updated road conditions and postponing unnecessary travel until roads are cleared.
