Blacksburg, VA – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for parts of Southwest Virginia, Northwest North Carolina, and Southern West Virginia through 7 a.m. Tuesday, as snow and gusty winds continue to impact travel across the Appalachian region.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, areas including Ashe and Watauga Counties (NC), Grayson, Tazewell, Smyth, and Bland Counties (VA), and Mercer and Summers Counties (WV) can expect 1 to 3 inches of snow with wind gusts reaching 35–40 mph.

The advisory, issued Monday afternoon, warns of slippery roads and reduced visibility from blowing snow, particularly along higher elevations such as Boone, Independence, Bluefield, and Marion. Drivers are urged to use caution during the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes, as travel may be hazardous on untreated roads.

The NWS advises motorists to slow down and monitor 511 travel lines for the latest road conditions in their state. Temperatures will remain near freezing overnight, keeping surfaces icy into early Tuesday before conditions gradually improve later in the day.

Residents across the mountain counties are encouraged to check local updates for any school delays or closures Tuesday morning as winter conditions persist.
