Wakefield, VA – A cold front will sweep across Virginia on Saturday, bringing gusty winds and much cooler temperatures that could pose frost risks by Sunday morning. As high temperatures in the 60s and low 70s persist through Friday, the incoming front will trigger a rapid shift in weather conditions for the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, warm and dry conditions are expected today, with a high near 70°F in Wakefield and nearby regions. However, by Saturday afternoon, gusty winds up to 20 mph are forecast as colder air moves into the state. Drivers along I-95 should be prepared for breezy conditions, and residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items.

Weekend Breakdown and Frost Advisory

Saturday night will see temperatures plummet, with lows reaching the low 40s. Sunday morning could see frost, especially in rural and low-lying areas of Virginia’s Piedmont and Tidal Potomac regions. A Frost Advisory is already in place for parts of northern Virginia, which will likely expand to other areas by Saturday night.

Residents in affected areas should cover sensitive plants and outdoor vegetation. Temperatures are expected to stay cold through Sunday with a high of just 61°F. Winds will calm slightly but remain brisk, coming from the northwest.

Looking Ahead to Halloween

As Halloween approaches next Thursday, trick-or-treaters can expect milder conditions. The extended forecast shows sunny skies and a high near 69°F for most of the state, providing pleasant weather for evening activities. Overnight lows could dip into the mid-50s, so parents are encouraged to dress children warmly, especially in rural areas that may still experience residual chill from the weekend’s cold front.
