Blacksburg, VA – Mountain regions in Virginia will face strong winds and snow showers starting Wednesday night, with gusts as high as 60 mph. The National Weather Service warns that areas above 3,000 feet, including parts of the Blue Ridge, could see 2 to 5 inches of snow accumulation.
According to the National Weather Service, conditions will turn hazardous as a cold front moves into the region late Wednesday night. Winds may make travel on mountain roads, such as the Blue Ridge Parkway, particularly dangerous. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and prepare for possible power outages due to falling branches.
Temperatures in Blacksburg will drop into the low 30s Wednesday night, with breezy conditions continuing into Thursday. Gusty northwest winds will persist across the Piedmont area, where speeds could reach up to 35 mph. Snowfall in these lower elevations is not expected, but cold and windy weather may still disrupt travel.
The extended forecast for the region includes mostly sunny skies on Friday and Saturday, with daytime highs in the low 30s. Nighttime temperatures will dip into the teens, emphasizing the need for residents to stay warm and keep pipes from freezing.
Drivers should monitor road conditions closely and avoid travel on high-elevation routes during peak winds and snowfall. Updates will be posted by the National Weather Service as conditions develop.
