Blacksburg, Va. – Scattered showers will continue across Virginia through Wednesday, with the heaviest rainfall concentrating over the eastern third of the state. Drivers along Route 58 and in cities like Lynchburg, Danville, and South Boston could see slick conditions as totals climb above half an inch.
According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, rainfall amounts will vary sharply depending on location. Areas east of the Blue Ridge are most likely to see between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain, while regions west of the ridge, including Wytheville and Bristol, may see little to none.
Localized heavier downpours could slow travel along I-81 near Roanoke and I-64 closer to Charlottesville, especially during the evening commute. The NWS advises motorists to allow extra time on wet roads and to avoid driving through standing water.
Western counties including Grayson, Smyth, and Giles should stay mostly dry, though cloud cover will keep temperatures cooler than normal. The unsettled weather pattern is expected to ease by late Wednesday, with drier conditions spreading across the state into Thursday.
More rainfall updates are likely as showers linger through midweek.
